Dear King Middle School Families,

I’m writing to let you know that our school had a “soft lockdown” this afternoon for a short period of time due to activity by Portland Police near our school. The activity was not school-related, but police were in the process of arresting a suspect, and they recommended that we make sure the area around our school was secure and that there was no one outside beginning about 1:45 p.m. Once the suspect was in custody, shortly after 2 p.m., our school was able to resume regular operations. The situation lasted less than half an hour and we were able to resume our normal school day and dismiss students as usual.
