About the Institute:

The Spring Institute is an opportunity for educators from across the North East to explore King’s instructional model, to observe students engaged in authentic tasks, and to apply what they have learned to their own practice.

As a credentialed EL Education School, King is a leader in developing, implementing and sharing innovative project based learning, character, and proficiency based education practices.

Day 1 of the Spring Institute will dive deep into planning, leading, and celebrating rigorous and engaging learning expeditions.
On Day 2, participants will develop and improve plans for their own organizations by analyzing the systems and structures that have allowed King to maintain a culture of continuous improvement over the last 27 years.

Throughout the Institute, participants new to project based learning will have an opportunity to plan first steps for their team or school while teachers and leaders with some project based learning experience will have an opportunity to share, deepen and hone their work with input from King staff, administration, and educators from across the North East.

One Day Site Visits:

King welcomes hundreds of visitors every year.
These daylong professional development seminars are conducted by King's leadership team and can be designed to meet your school's needs. Visitors often come to learn about project based learning model (grounded in EL Education (formerly Expeditionary Learning), proficiency-based practices, and Habits of Work and Learning curriculum.

In addition to these topics
, participants interact with students and teachers, explore how King maintains a culture of continuous improvement, and consider what changes could be made at the participants' schools.

Leadership teams and teaching teams are encouraged to attend. To inquire about a site visit or to arrange a professional development seminar, contact Peter Hill (hillp@portlandschools.org)
