December is a busy month at King with houses culminating expeditions and holiday concerts. Find out from your student when culminations are occuring. We will announce them in the Upcoming Events section of the website as they are made available.

Extended learning initiative for King students wins $2500 award
Thanks to all who voted online

King's Seize the Day, Extend the Day program won a $2500 award from Farmers Insurance. Thanks to our families and friends for supporting this effort. Read more about the program and award here.

With the beginning of the year business out of the way, King teachers and students are busy in every house at every grade level in new learning expeditions. To learn about our current expeditions, or look back at expeditions from the past eight years, visit our On Expedition page.

Supeintendent Caulk Takes the Ice Bucket Challenge on Opening Day at King

Superintendent Caulk, along with former Portland Education Association President Kathleen Casasa, took the challenge in front or the new 6th grade class at King. Mr. Caulk dedicated the event to Deering Social Worker, Nan Urban, who passed away from ALS, and said that donations were being made to the ALS Association, as well as to eHope.

We begin our regular school schedule, 8:15 - 2:30, on Wednesday.

    As was the case last year, students will be dismissed at 1:25 on Wednesdays, beginning on the last Weds in September.

    Please call our absent line at 874-8141.
  • Drop Off and Pick Up Safely
    The school traffic circle is for buses only during drop off and pick up times. Please do not drop children at the entrance to the back parking lot. Be sure to observe the 15 MPH speed limit to avoid tickets in excess of $300.

Karen MacDonald - Maine Teacher of the Year- meets with the President in Washington May 2014

Windsor 6 LA Teacher Karen MacDonald is in the capitol this week, with her couterparts from 49 other states, in recognition and celebration of her role as Maine Teacher of the Year. The week culminates in a ceremony at the White House hosted by President Obama, which will be streamed live on at 2 pm on Thursday.

Nearly all King students participate on teams or clubs during the year. Sports and club information is always available at the Sports & Clubs link in the left column of every page.

PBS Newshour features King learning expedition
See the broadcast

“PBS Newshour” featured King Middle School this week as part of its national nightly news program.

A “Newshour” crew began taping the Windsor 8 expedition at King in the early fall. The segment is the first of two parts describing an eighth grade learning expedition titled “reVOLT.” The second part will be broadcast at a date to be announced.
