The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere

by Nick

After the Destruction of the Tea, King George declared a series of acts. called the Coercive Acts. These acts said that colonists couldn't hold meetings and Boston Harbor was closed. The colonists were cut off from each other entirely.  This made many things difficult for them because they could not get any supplies.

Meanwhile Sam Adams and John Hancock were hiding in Lexington. There were also hidden supplies there in case fighting broke out. The British soon found out and headed to the area to destroy the supplies, and arrest Adams and Hancock. Fortunately, a spy heard about the plans and told Paul Revere. Revere told a friend to send a signal of hanging lamps in the North church-one lamp if by land and two in by sea. Two lights were seen in the tower, which meant Revere had to hurry.

Revere and another man named Samuel Prescott rode to Lexington to warn Adams and Hancock, as well as to tell Patriots that the Redcoats were coming. Revere and Prescott started to go to Concord to continue warning people, but the were arrested by the Redcoats. After that a man named William Dawes finished the ride for them. When the Redcoats arrived they were met by a group of armed patriots. Fighting began and so did the Revolutionary War, which is why the first shot is called "the shot heard 'round the world."
