The web site Sparks of Liberty is a work of historical fiction. There was no actual discovery of journals in Boston on May 4th!
The seventh grade students at King Middle School
studied the four "sparks" that led up to the first shots of the
American Revolution. In late March, the students researched
colonial roles, read historical fiction novels set during this time
period, and focused on events that took place in Boston between
1770 and 1775. They traveled to Boston to visit the sites where
this history occurred. When they returned, the Windsor-7 students
created a colonial character and wrote letters or journal entries as if
they were that character reporting on the times. In art class
they created a colonial portrait that helped bring their character to
life.
As a group, we
created this fictional scenario to bring a creative flair to the
learning. We hope this unique spin provided interest for the
readers of this website, as well.
