Combining Your Timeline into 1 Clip

 

1.        Create a good sequence of clips on your timeline.

 

2.        Save your project.

 

3.        From the File menu, choose Export (or Share depending on your version of iMovie).  From the QuickTime tab, choose full quality and save the new QuickTime movie file to your desktop.

 

4.        From the File menu, choose Import, and select the QuickTime movie file saved in step 3.

 

5.        Review the new clip.  If it is perfect, delete the clips from your timeline.

 

 

Pasting Over A Roll with B Roll

 

1.  Combine your A Roll into 1 Clip (see steps above) and place the A Roll clip in the timeline.
2.  View the timeline using the timeline view by clicking on the clock button .
3.  Select the B Roll you want to paste over and highlight the part you want using the triangles below the Scrubber Bar. Copy the highlighted selection.
4.  On the timeline, place the playhead where you would like the B Roll to begin and in the Advanced menu select "Paste Over at Playhead."
5.  Continue the process until all of your paste overs are complete. 
6.  When you are confident that the new sequence is good, combine your timeline into 1 clip (top of the page), and move the new clip to your shelf. 
7.  Clear the timeline for new edits.
