The
wilderness is an uncultivated and inhospitable region. Wilderness
is like the countryside of a state or country. Wilderness is really important
because it provides habitats for many animals.
Trees in the wilderness are important because they produce oxygen and keep
our air clean. In wilderness areas people camp, fish,
and hike. Another value of the wilderness is that people
can get out of their busy lives and go to the wilderness to rest in such
natural beauty.
There is a law in our country called the Wilderness Act of 1964. It protects
wilderness areas of the country. No roads, no buildings, no logging and
no cars are allowed in Wilderness. Over 106 million acres of public land
have been officially called Wilderness.
The Wilderness Society is an organization that
is helping to protect wilderness areas in our country. They are interested
in saving another 200 million acres as Wilderness.
We, as people should protect the wilderness
because if we don't we could destroy animals' habitats and also
get some animals listed as endangered.
We could protect wilderness by cutting fewer trees down, building houses
away from the wilderness and not polluting the environment.
