Threatened
species are species that are on the way to becoming endangered. The species
that are threatened are in trouble for a number of reasons. One is because of the humans. We are doing things
to the animals like polluting the water by
putting gas in it. We are destroying their
homes by cutting down trees, and we also put animal populations in danger
by over hunting. If we kill too many of one animal then the animal
that survives from eating that animal that we killed would soon die of starvation.
Too many animals are being threatened
or endangered. Currently there are 17 threatened animals in Maine,
and 19 endangered. You can make a difference. We can help stop these
animals from becoming extinct by helping save
their habitats and food sources. Contact your
local Audubon Society or any wildlife organization for ways you can help.
