Fish
Fish
are cold-blooded animals that live in the water. They also have fins, gills, and a streamlined shaped
body.
They are vertebrates,
which means any animal that has a backbone. Although there are a large
number of vertebrate species, the vertebrates make up approximately
3 percent of the animal kingdom.
How
Fish Relate To Endangerment
The Atlantic salmon
(Salmo salar) was once a fish on the endangered
species list for Maine. The Atlantic
salmon is good example of a fish that once was endangered(almost extinct),
but then moved down to threatened because of
salmon farms. The salmon farms are raising baby salmon to become adults.
They are then released so they are able to spawn. The population has increased
enough for the salmon to be moved down to the threatened species list.
Fish
currently on the endangered species list include: Crenichthys Springfish, Alabama Cavefish, Desert Pupfish, Fountain Darter, Lost River Sucker, Big Bend Gambusia , Logperch
Roanoke, and the Smokey Madtom are some of the other fish on the endangered species
list in Maine.
