How Does Diversity Strengthen an Ecosystem??

Diversity is a very strong word. It’s a word that describes our world. It means being diverse, different, or varied. Our whole world consists of different things. If we didn’t have diversity, a lot of things would change. Without diversity our ecosystems would weaken. Our food chain would change and animals wouldn’t have any food resources to rely on. These animals would die or become endangered, and the next step after that is extinction.  We should do our best to keep the diversity of living things in our habitats.

Everything works together in a habitat to form a community.

Our world is a more beautiful place because of

diversity. Everything works together, forming

a more beautiful and balanced world.

What would happen to our world if we didn't have diversity? If one animal becomes extinct and it’s prey to another animal, it would create problems with the food chain. That animal would then have to go find different prey or could take over another animal's prey. The world would change dramatically if this continued.

There is also diversity in plant life. Plants need sunlight and rain to grow, and produce their own food. Herbivores and omnivores need plants to eat, and if there aren't any plants for these animals to rely on they would have to turn to another resource that other animals already use. Soon some types of plants would disappear. Then pretty soon some  animals would become extinct.

All of these animals, which are diverse in many ways, work together.

Living things play different roles in a habitat. Some animals break down waste material and dead organisms, plants produce their own food and provide food for other animals, and we help these animals out, so we play a part in their habitat too. If every animal was the same, they would be playing the same role and would eat the same thing.  Diversity does strenghten our ecosystem.
