A species of concern is any species of animal that is not endangered or threatened, but could easily become so because of low numbers, habitat loss, or other problems. A species of concern is a step away from being threatened.

This contains categories of animals that are in trouble (species of concern, threatened, endangered, and extinct) and laws that say you can't do federal projects that would destroy the habitat of these species.
