The Habitat
Page
Welcome to the
habitat page. This page will tell you about different habitats in Maine
and why they are so important. A habitat is the place where animals live.
A habitat has everything an animal needs, such as the correct climate
and food.
The picture above includes a coastal wetland
area. A wetland is land full of water. Wetlands includemarshes, swamps
and bogs. One of the species on the endangered species
list in Maine is the box turtle. The reason why the box turtle is endangered is because
the habitat is being destroyed. The box turtle is listed as a species of
concern in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. If wetlands continue to
be destroyed other animals may become endangered. That's why we should
not destroy wetlands or any other habitat area.
