Extinct
Species are species that are no longer living. Species that become
extinct go through the process of being a species of concern,
then a threatened species,
and then they become endangered. When a species is extinct it means
that they have all died because their
source of food has become extinct or moved to a different place.
Humans can also cause a species to become extinct. They could over hunt them
and then eat them, or use their feathers or fur for coats and accessories.
Pollution is also a
big reason why species become extinct. For example, cars use a lot of
gas and when you are driving the fumes from the gas can get into
water or different environments where many different species live and
it could pollute their habitat.
One species
of animal that became extinct is the passenger pigeon. People would hunt
them and
then use their feathers for hats and accessories. The labrador duck is also an extinct animal.
They were hunted for food until they became extinct.
The Endangered Species Act is a way
to protect animals so that no more become extinct.
