Diary of Samuel Adams
by Victoriana
October 24, 1772
Today was a harder day for the tavern. There were
many people at the pub. There was a fight, the biggest fight I have
seen in a long time. I feel like no one listens to the colonists. We
are going to have to do something about it. Today was a very bad
day, there was water from the rain leaking through the roof that
we keep forgetting to repair. Some day we will get to it.
William.P. Waltz is my best friend. He’s been
through everything with me. I have a feeling that we are going to be
friends for life. When I got home from work today I was pretty excited!
My wife had made a huge dinner and I was very hungry because I had not
eaten all day because the tavern was very busy. Now all I
have to do is think about the plans for tomorrow, plans for the
possible rebellion.
Yesterday I had a weird dream. It was about 25 years
ago when I was at Harvard. 1736. Sometimes I think about how much I
have accomplished. I am many things, a political leader, The Governor
of Massachusetts, a brewer, and a publisher. It does not seem like a
hard job but believe me it is.

Today we started our protest. We protested all
day. I am so tired of having to pay so many taxes for everything,
and now they go and tax us for something that we have
pretty much lived on. Enough is enough. This will be over soon enough.
My wife and I were very upset when we heard what was happening.
That they were taxing us on our tea which we drink every morning. I got
the plan all plotted out. We are going to dump all of the tea off
of the ship to show them that we are serious. The tax collectors have
come way too far. They have been taxing us on everything that we do. We
have gathered up a gang of men to dress like Indians and sail a
ship to dump the tea. It is pretty much saying, “Take the taxes
away, or you will not get any money at all including the people
even paying for it.”
December 17, 1776
Today I went to work at the tavern. After work we
went down to the shipyard to see if there was any commotion about what
went on last night. There were soldiers everywhere, everyone was
outraged. It was HUGE! I was nervous because I thought that someone
would betray us but no one did. The Indian Tea Company was very upset
with what happened. They were very mad at all of the colonists because
they lost money because of our rebellion. So today was a pretty good
day. Well, I think it was anyway.

Sometimes throughout our meetings and planning, I
questoned the trustworthiness of my peers. But at this point I do
not because I have gained trust in my fellow countrymen. I have been
about signing the Declaration of Independence. It is very scary, but it
feels really good falling to sleep at night knowing that you are
building a new nation.
Epilogue
Samuel Adams became known as one of the leaders of what was is now
called the Boston Tea Party. Even though his business nearly went into
the ground, he is now known as one of the most famous beer brewers in .
