The Journal of General Gage

by Michael

The colonists did not know that I had moved back to the tree line with five hundred other men stationed in the tree line waiting for the colonists to lower their guard. The colonists let down their guard and we stormed the hill. The colonists had two advantages, one they were dug in, and the other was that they have our cannon. We ran toward the hill, the colonists waited for us to get in range and when we got close enough they shot the cannon and the smoke was so thick that you could not see. When the smoke cleared there where men dead all around me.

I remember the battle for Bunker Hill it was most unpleasant. The colonists were at the top of the hill shooting my men, I sent men to take the hill,to drive the colonists out but they where dug in and hard to fire on. I led more men to take the hill and there were men dying all around me. I saw two soldiers both fighting with bayonets stabbing each other they kneel there frozen in that position with their bayonets stuck in one an other.

Our cannon shot into a group of soldiers. The explosion sent them flying. Then  Captain send another group of men trying to drive them out and was successful.

The colonists regrouped, waited for morning, when morning came and the colonists went to the hill, found us celebrating. A couple of colonists took the cannon, the others waited just behind the hill for the cannon to go off, the cannon went off. The men that where still alive went to fire on the 20th b, that had taken the cannon. Then we ran towards them but to our surprise the colonists had men behind the hill  and the colonists that where behind the hill rose, shooting us down , killing every one around me but a young man named John James, who they took prisoner.

But we were still storming the hill. The colonists shot into the line of Brits the line collapsed but there where more men that where still running forward, we ran in to the colonists stabbing them with our bayonets. Then we shot the men that were responsible for captured our cannon, the remainder of the colonist were also killed. We found John James gagged and tied  face down in the dirt.  I, General Gage, freed him.
