ECOLOGY AND ECOSYSTEM

ECOLOGY- ecology is the study of interactions among different organisms living in the same habitat.

ECOSYSTEM- ecosystem all the organisms living in an area and the non-living features of their environment.

In an ecosystem many different things depend on each other to survive in their habitat. Sometimes when too many new species come into                     the habitat it develops limiting factor. Limiting factor is when anything that can restrict the size of population, including living and                         non-living features of an ecosystem. When things in the habitat get to crowded competition starts to happen. Competition is when different     species are fighting over living space, shelter, and food. Things that can be bad for the ecosystem is if an "alien species" comes into the    habitat it will effect that area. It will effect the area because having a new species in the area will create more competition and the native species will move out.  Like with the Northern Pike effecting Sebago Lake. What happened was somebody introduced the new species in the lake and it majorly affected the habitat. Fishermen and many other people are trying to catch the species so it won't affect the area anymore. This would also effect the animals that were already living in Sebago Lake because this was THEIR habitat. But now it has been partially taken over by the Northern Pike.

Adaptations are a very important thing in the ecosystem. Adaptation is when any variation that makes an organism better suited to its environment. Here are some examples of adaptations of different species. Well for an example,  a dog uses it's mouth to growl or bite a object that might seem as a predator. Also the dog uses it's good hearing to hear if something or someone is near. My dog Reno can tell if someone's car just pulled up in their driveway from like 2 blocks away. Also he can hear a police siren when I can't even hear anything.

Symbiotic Relationships- There are 3 types of relationships mutualism, parasitism, and commensalism. Mutualism is a type of symbiotic relationship in which both organisms benefit. Such as a clown fish and anemone. Parasitism is a type of symbiotic relationship in which one organism benefits and the other is harmed. Such as us and mosquitos. The mosquito is benefited and us the humans are harmed, because we could get lyme disease or something like that. Commensalism is also a type of symbiotic relationship in which one organism benefits and the other is not affected.

Predators are consumers that capture and eat other consumers. The prey is an organism that is captured by the predator then eaten. The predators limit the size of the prey population. In the end this could lead to competition for food, habitat area and other resources that help this species live. HERE ARE SOME
EXAMPLES BELOW.

and the is a predator and prey relationship. The lion would eat up the Gazelle in seconds. But the gazelle probably has many adaptations that protect itself from predators.
