Ecology:
 The branch of biology that deals with the relations of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings.
Ecosystem:
 A biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.


What is a biome? A biome is a large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat.
 A star fish  would live in the marine/island biome.
These are some different biomes:
1. Mountains (High Elevation)
2, Tundra
3. Temperate
4. Forest
5. Marine/Island
6. Desert
7. Tropical Dry
8. Cold Climate
9. Forest
10. Grassland
11. Savannah
12. Tropical
13. Rain forest
 A rabbit  on the other hand might live in the Temperate Forest, the Forest, the Mountains, or the Grassland.

How do animals in different ecosystems relate with each other?
Different animals in different ecosystems and biomes relate with each other in different ways.  It is the job of ecologists to study these interactions.  An ecologist is a person who studies ecology.


Symbiotic Relationships
A symbiotic relationship is an interaction between two different organisms living in close physical association.  There are three different symbiotic relationships.
1. Mutualism is when both species benefit.  A clown fish is protected by an anemone's and the anemone gets a free cleaning.  
2.  Commensalism is when one species bebenefitsnd the other is unharmed.  Alga living in fungus  has a free home and does nothing to the fungus.  
3. Parasitism is when one species benefits and the other is harmed.  A tick gets food from anything that has blood and who ever or what ever it gets it from could die because the tick could have a decease.  


Diversity of Animals
It is important to have diversity amonge animals because if there was only one kind of animal, there wouldn't be any predators and the one species would over populate like the humans have done.  A couple of the out comes of humans over populating are:

1. In China, couples are only alowed to have two kids because the government doesn't want the population to get any bigger that it is.

2. All the forests and other habitats for animals are getting distroyed to make houses for people

Do we want that to happen with other animals too?
A snail and a sponge live in a pinnapple under the sea together.    
A lobster and shrimp live in the ocean together.    
A bobcat and a mountain lion live together and sometimes cross paths.

Populations and Communities
Animals have populations and communitys?!?!  Of course they do!  An animal population is all the animals in an ecosystem that are the same species.  An animal community are all the animals in an ecosystem.
