FOOD WEB

There are different ways animals eat.   The Food chain starts with the producers.  The producers are the plants that use chlorophyll to make sunlight and water in to energy.  The producers are then eaten by the herbivores.  The herbivores get all there energy form eating plants.  Then the herbivores are eaten by carnivores and omnivores.  Once the carnivores die they are eaten

FOOD Chain: A series of organisms interrelated in their feeding habits, the smallest being fed upon by a larger one, which in turn feeds a still larger one.

This is an example of a food chain.  The grass is the producer.  The grass is eaten by the rabbit which is a herbivore.  The rabbit is eaten by the red fox which is a omnivore.  and the red fox is eaten by coyotes.

A food web is a systems of inter locking food chains.  It shows that all animals in a ecosystem are connecting.   Food chains are useful because you can tell all the things the animal eats.  You can see the fox eats berries mice, bugs and rabbits.  But you can also tell that they get eaten by coyotes.
This is an maine energy pyramid. As you can see there are more organisms on the bottom of the food than the top.  This is because the energy is lost the more animals it through.
