Habitat Loss

By Austin Kessler

Forests

Habitat loss is becoming a big problem in Maine.  While we are cutting all the trees down we are taking habitats away from many animals.  Trees are homes for a lot of animals.  If they don't live up in trees they live on the ground but use the trees for food or other uses.  All the animals that live on the ground, will get their habitats destroyed.

When we build cities, we are taking what was a forest or, ecosystem  and destroying it.  Probably 100 years before this picture was taken,  there was most likely a huge forest here.  If we keep cutting down all the forests, we will take all the animals' habitats and there will be no more animals.  If there are any animals left, they won't be there for long because they won't have a habitat.

Pollution

Pollution can kill a lot of animals and destroy a lot of habitats.  Pollution can get into the water and kill all the plants that the small fish eat. After that, bigger fish eat the smaller fish, but they are not there because they died because they had no food.  As you can see, one thing can affect a lot.  While we are cutting down the forests, we are probably going to make a lot of pollution clearing or building the site.  Now we are destroying habitats in two ways without knowing it.
