Food Chain

A food chain is a transfer of food energy from one organism to another in another in an ecosystem (see right).  A food chain begins with a producer, a green plant or alga for example a tree, that create its own food through photosynthesis. Producers are eaten by primary consumers, herbivores (rabbit) which are eaten by secondary consumers, minor carnivores (mountain lion), some of which may in turn be eaten by tertiary consumers, or top carnivore in the chain (ficher). Since omnivors eat both meat and plant they can have multiple roles in a food chain.

Food Web

A food web is a more complicated food chain (see left)
. Instead of one chain there are many chains put together into one. Scientist usually use food webs when making a research because it gives a bigger range of what happens in that ecosystem.
