Food Chain
Definition-
a series of organisms each dependent on the next as a source of food
Example-

How the food chain works:
Usually the food chain would start with the sun or producer. Because the sun and water are the ones that are giving the plants life on Earth. The energy from the plants is transferred to the grasshopper who is known as a primary consumer. Primary consumers are usually herbivores. The secondary consumer, the snake, eats the grasshopper. The snake is known as a carnivore. The peregrine falcon is the tertiary consumer who is also a carnivore like the snake. When the peregrine falcon dies, the decomposers such as worms and fungus eat the decaying material left by the peregrine falcon and the chain goes on and on as life's cycle.

Food Web

Here is an example of a food chain on the left. The arrows show in which direction the energy is transferred to.
