A food chain is a series of organisms interrelated in their feeding habits, the smallest being fed upon by a larger one, which in turn feeds a still larger one, etc.
A food web is a series of organisms related by predator-prey and consumer-resource interactions; the entirety of interrelated food chains in an ecological community.

Food chains show how every living thing gets it's food.  Some animals eat plants and some animals eat other animals.  Each link in a food chain is food for the next link.  A food chain usually starts with plant life and ends with an animal.
