Physical Description 

The Little Blue Heron is a small dark bird that is about 63- 74 centimeters in length.  It can spread its wings about 1.04 mEgretts (Little Blue Heron) usually feed during the day time hours.   They are carnivores.  Their diet consists of fish, frogs, lizards, snakes, and turtles.  They  also eat aquatic insects.  The Little Blue Heron’s long legs enable them to wade into the water where they walk slowly in the water in order to locate there prey.  they often have to rake there feet to see there prey.eters.  The sexes look the same but the young look very different from the adults.  An adult can be recognized by its long neck and maroonish color on its neck.  The rest is a plumish gray the long neck is usually in an “S” shape curve while the bird is at rest or in flight the Herons slender bill curves slightly downward and is also dark gray.  But has a black tip.

Diet and Feeding Habits 

Egretts (Little Blue Heron) usually feed during the day time hours.   They are carnivores.  Their diet consists of fish, frogs, lizards, snakes, and turtles.  They  also eat aquatic insects.  The Little Blue Heron’s long legs enable them to wade into the water where they walk slowly in the water in order to locate there prey.  they often have to rake there feet to see there prey.

 Reproduction

The pale blue green eggs of the heron are laid in April.   They can lay from 3-5 but on average.  They lay 4-5.  This process takes about 5-8 days for one egg being laid every other day.   Both sexes incubate the egg until they hatch which is in 22-24 days and then quickly take off the egg shells.  It may take about 5 days for the egg to emerge.

Habitat

The Little Blue Heron (Egretta Caerulea) sometimes lives near salt water
its mainly an inland bird they would rather have fresh water areas such as ponds, lakes, marshes, swamps, and lagoons.

Role in the Ecosystem

Its niche in the ecosystem is it lives in the wetlands so it can get its water and eat the animals their such as frogs. So can keep the population leveled. it is not a Herbivore who eats plants or an Omnivore who eats plants and meat. Its a Carnivore who eats just meat
