A food chain shows how organisms get their food. A food
chain starts with plants or producers. Producers make there own
food. The second organisms in a food chain are the consumers. There
are three types of consumers. The three types are omnivores, herbivores,
and carnivores. An omnivore is an organism that eat both plants and other
organisms. An herbivore is an organism that eats only plants. A carnivore
is an organism that eats only other organisms. Carnivores are also pedators.
Pedators are animals that eat other animals for food. Omnivores are also
pedators. The animal that is eatin by a pedators is prey. Prey is an animal
that is eaten by pedators. At the end of the food chain are decomposers.
Decomposers are organisms that eat dead or decaying plants or organisms.
Decomposers are usually bacteria or fungi. Here is an example of a food
chain.
Food Web
Food web are almost like food chains. They have the same
onmivores, herbivores, carnivores, and decomposers. Food webs are multiple
food chains. The food web shows many things that an organism might
eat. A food web also might show what eats what in an ecosystem. Here
is an example.
