Physical Description
The black capped chickadee is 4.5 inches. It has a short bill and a black
crown and throat. It also has a white face pale gray upper parts white
edges to wing converts.
Diet and Feeding Habits
The black capped chickadee eats worms berries and spiders and sometimes
seeds. Its favorite thing to snack on is sunflower seeds. During the winter
the chickadee usually eats vegetables matter and seeds from fruit.
Reproduction
Pair formation occurs in the fall, with eggs being laid some time between
April and early July. The female builds the nest one, as well as incubating
the eggs.
Habitat
They have a variety of habitats but they are mostly found in the deciduous
or mixed woodlands, willow thickets and cotton wood groves. They will also
most likely build their nests on high up tree trunks. These birds are mainly
located in the northern part of the United States.
Role in the Ecosystem
The black capped chickadee is a omnivore. It is a prey and mostly eats
worms and smaller insects like all other birds. The chickadee lives open
forests. They build their nests on high tree stumps. The chickadee is mostly
found in small flocks.
