Mammals are animals that are born with fur or hair. Mammals give birth to live young which they feed with milk. They are warm blooded and have the most highly developed nervous system of all the animals. A mammal usually has four limbs and a four chambered heart. The largest mammal is the blue whale at 100 feet in length. The smallest mammals are shrews, mice, and bats.

The most common or native mammals in  maine are: moose, black bear, red and gray fox, wolf, coyote, white tailed dear, mink,  and much more.

Mammals habitats have to be on land, because mammals (like other living things) have lungs. For instance, a fox could not live in the ocean because it does not have gills like fish. Most mammals live in the forests of Maine. Two of the mammals of Maine that live in the ocean are: the whales, and the seal. Whales have to breath air (like all mammals), so they have a blow hole on the top of their head. They use that blow hole to breath.
